Spring is maple syrup time in the Bay of Quinte region, Hastings County, and Lennox and Addington. In maple forests, sap drips into buckets, tubes or pipes. Later, it will be boiled to make maple syrup and sugar.
You can watch this process and enjoy lots of family-friendly activities at sugar shacks and sugar bushes, including the ones below. Check their websites before visiting, as some are only open to the public by appointment or during special events like Ontario Maple Weekend.
- Bata Maples Sugarbush: Located in Quinte West, this maple syrup operation is usually open to the public during Ontario Maple Weekend.
- Clarmac Farms: This sugarbush in Tyendinaga is open for visits by appointment.
- Moneymore Maple Syrup: You can visit this maple sugarbush near Roslin by appointment to see the operation and buy their products. Syrup production usually happens in March.
- Salmon River Sugar Bush: Head to this sugar bush in Tamworth to see how the sweet stuff is made and buy some to bring home.
- Trillium Ridge Sugarworks: Enjoy a pancake brunch (reserve in advance), take a tour, and shop for maple products at this organic sugarbush in North Tyendinaga.
- Walt’s Sugar Shack: Located in Trenton, this family-owned farm also raises beef cattle.
