Enhabit properties are perfect for small families or groups of friends seeking a cozy and intimate vacation experience. Two years ago when I wrote about Enhabit’s first property, The Frontenac, I noted how it was a stylish and cozy accommodation that is perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy some peace and quiet in a serene setting. So, when I was invited back to write about their newest property: Black Oak Lodge, I was thrilled to take the trip up again!
We all have a vision of the perfect gathering with friends and family. For me, it involves a simple and balanced combination of good food, great music, and even better weather. Picture a scene out of a movie, with music playing in the background and the camera circling around the table in slow motion. Drinks are flowing, everyone is happy, and delicious food is on the table. By booking with Enhabit, you can ensure that your greatest cottage weekend becomes a reality.
Black Oak Lodge is situated in the heart of South Frontenac and boasts 50 acres of untouched forest and Canadian shield, providing a secluded oasis that guarantees complete privacy. Black Oak Lodge boasts a minimalist exterior and a modern boutique hotel-style interior, complete with lofted ceilings, skylights, and plenty of natural light. The soaring high windows provide breathtaking views of the forest and cliffs across the lake.
With a fully equipped kitchen and seating for 14, entertaining guests is a breeze at Black Oak Lodge. Cooking and enjoying meals together is a highlight of any cottage getaway, and you can plan a menu of easy-to-prepare dishes or opt for grab-and-go meals from places like Cookery. Many of us eat high-quality food at home and so it can be frustrating to pitch in on groceries for cottage weekends only to find out that you’re eating packaged and processed foods all weekend. That’s why Cookery. is my go-to spot for scratch-made meals that feature local ingredients from nearby farms. During our stay, we enjoyed their hand-pressed burgers made with fresh and local beef.
A second living room and games area with Nintendo and foosball table provide entertainment for kids and large groups. WiFi with free Netflix, Apple TV, and a smart thermostat ensure guests have all the modern amenities they need. Each bedroom features an Endy mattress and full hotel-style bedding with Pendleton blankets, ensuring a restful night’s sleep! Linens and bathroom towels are provided, but guests are asked to bring their own beach and dock towels. A washer/dryer is available upon request.
Outside, the property offers 1000 ft of private waterfront access on Canoe Lake, with a private dock equipped with Muskoka chairs and ladder access into the water. Guests can enjoy swimming, fishing, and watersports on the clean and environmentally protected lake, which is 1km wide, 7km long, and 160 feet deep. A canoe, two kayaks, and a paddleboard are available for use, as well as a 160 square foot cedar floating dock.
One of the great things about a cottage getaway is that it allows for a lot of flexibility in terms of activities. You can take day trips to nearby towns and attractions or simply explore the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. Take a look at our Google Map at the end of this blog post for a list of nearby attractions to check out.
The expansive flat lawn is perfect for playing lawn games, and the outdoor patio and BBQ area are ideal for al fresco dining. As the sun sets, gather around the fire pit for s’mores and stargazing. A brand new sauna is being installed so you can relax and warm up on cool evenings.
It’s refreshing to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature and loved ones! (Although, we did have wifi, so we weren’t completely off the grid). This weekend reminded me how important it is to prioritize quality time with friends and family. This group of open-hearted, kind, and loving people made this weekend an unforgettable experience. Words can’t describe how beautiful this weekend was. I am grateful to have shared it with such an amazing group of people. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of life, pack your bags, and spend some quality time with those who matter most.
