The Villas at Maison Maitland are an inspiring European-style getaway space, perfect for a group of friends, or a little retreat with a loved one.
Hand-hewn beams, chef kitchens, original heritage stone walls—and yet brand new and exciting. The Villas at Maison Maitland are proving to be an enchanting, inspired space that’s a perfect luxurious getaway for rediscovering friends, foods, and yourself.
Cynthia Peters, Owner and Cooking Instructor at Maison Maitland Cooking School and Villas, said the accommodations are a newer addition at the historic property, having previously been a wedding venue. When she came to the area several years ago from Prince Edward County, Peters set to work completely redesigning and renovating the space behind the main house into Villas, while also establishing her cooking school. Originally, the space served as a carriage house dating back to the 1820s, and it still retains its charm.
“I had a blank canvas to do everything I wanted,” she said. “I try to look at this place as a destination unto itself. To create that feeling of being in the French countryside and having an escape on the property.”
Located just off Hwy. 401 between Toronto and Montreal, and under 10 minutes from the City of Brockville, Maison Maitland’s Villas are poised to be a much-beloved European-inspired hideaway.
Now, guests from across Ontario and even Europe are discovering the luxury villas, complete with top-tier comforts. Open February to the end of November, bookings are often including an award-winning cooking class at Peters’ school in the stunning heritage kitchen of the main house.
Peters said food is a big part of the experience for The Villas at Maison Maitland. In the same vein, guests can request charcuterie boards to be on the counter at their villas when they arrive. The kitchen is always well-stocked with oils, jams, butter, eggs and milk for coffee. In addition, Peters can put together chef’s baskets so everything guests need to prepare a meal when they arrive is there and waiting. What’s more, complimentary croissants are available each morning of the stay, along with coffee and Maison Maitland’s own breakfast blend of black tea by Pluck.
Upstairs, refined elegance continues in the bedrooms, where the personal touches feature Canadian pattern artist Kate Golding’s specially designed Crystals Black wallpaper from her Heirloom collection. Dormers were created in each sleeping quarter, which allows natural light to filter into each room. The villas boast king-sized beds, two bedrooms with ensuites, walk-in showers, and one even includes a gas fireplace to make the stay cozy.
All spaces are accented with carefully curated furnishings and art, drawing everything together seamlessly.
Peters said her concierge services offer everything from food tours, to yoga and art classes, to spa services and more. “Guests also have access to the whole front yard,” she said, noting games such as Bocce balls and croquet are available to play or guests can enjoy sitting in the front pavilion and soaking in the gorgeous view of the river.
For Peters, it has been a labour of love to bring her vision to life - and now to see people enjoying the spaces and indulging in a cooking class, too. “It’s a unique experience we are offering. A real slice of France,” she said. “I love hosting, cooking and sharing this beautiful property. It’s meant to be enjoyed by many.”
