Dive into an enchanting March Break: The Aquatarium’s Mermaids are back

Imagine seeing live mermaids, gracefully swimming underwater in front of you, waving and friendly, causing you and your little sea explorers to suspend belief and revel in the magic of the moment. It’s reality, and it’s happening at The Aquatarium in Brockville in March!

Each year, Mermaids: Enchanting Encounters at Brockville’s Aquatarium becomes more magical - and this year is no exception. Dazzling underwater shows, whimsical storytelling, and charming Mermaid meetups promise to fill March Break with wonder.

Taking place from March 14 to 22, 2026, it’s the fifth year the Aquatarium is welcoming mermaids to celebrate March Break. Rebecca Morris, Marketing Coordinator at the Aquatarium, said they are thrilled to continue growing the popular experience, adding new adventures, and creating unforgettable moments for guests of all ages. 

“We hope to delight every visitor who walks through our doors with a truly magical mermaid experience,” she said. 

Visitors have the opportunity to explore and engage with mermaids both in the water and on land. This year, guests will also have the chance to meet, interact with, and watch performances by 17 mermaids. 

New this year are enhanced VIP experiences, reimagined to bring together the best of the Aquatarium. “Guests will enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes mermaid meet-and-greets, along with special animal encounters,” Morris said, noting that VIP guests can choose between an otter or beaver experience with the animal care team and enjoy exclusive access to the mermaids. “It’s a truly unique way to experience both the magic of the mermaids and the wonder of our animals.”

In addition, the Swim with a Mermaid experience is returning with more time slots available. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and swim alongside a live mermaid at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and the Comfort Inn in Brockville.

This year the event is celebrating a carnival theme; be sure to keep an eye out for immersive decor throughout the Aquatarium, carnival games, and a roaming carnival busker to delight and entertain visitors. In addition, look for a new offering: Breakfast with a Mermaid! Available exclusively for guests who are staying at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites or the Comfort Inn. They can enjoy a continental breakfast while meeting a mermaid in a unique setting. 

Also look for Riverbank Tales at the Aquatarium, returning with an exciting new chapter. “This year, the continuation of the story will be performed on-site at the Aquatarium, making it even easier for guests to enjoy the show,” Morris said. “Best of all, the performance is included with general admission to Mermaids.”

Morris said the entire event has proven to be an incredible hit, with thousands of visitors sharing the mermaid experience last year. She said guests travelled from Ottawa, Montreal, and Kingston, as well as from Toronto and surrounding communities. “Mermaids: Enchanting Encounters is truly a magical event. It invites children to fully embrace their imagination and sense of wonder,” she said. “It’s an unforgettable experience for families to enjoy together over March Break, filled with enchanting moments, exciting activities, and so much to see and do.”

The adventure even extends beyond the Aquatarium and throughout Brockville. More than 25 local businesses are offering mermaid and ocean-themed immersive activities, items, special offers and more. To keep an eye out for magical surprises around town, Morris said an exciting interactive app will soon be launching where guests can track their visits, collect points and earn fun prizes along the way.
