In Lennox and Addington County sits a stately 1880s farmhouse on the bank of the Millhaven Creek that’s been lovingly transformed into a bed and breakfast. Surrounded by tiered gardens and a shaded patio, with two resident dogs waiting on the porch, Daisy Hill offers a warm and peaceful retreat for travellers looking to slow down and bring their pets along for the ride.
The Daisy Hill Bed & Breakfast is the kind of place where dogs wag their tails the moment the car door opens. Pet-friendly, beautifully kept, and full of thoughtful touches, this restored farmhouse feels like coming home to somewhere you’ve never been.
For travellers who dislike the idea of leaving their pets behind, Daisy Hill offers something rare, and that’s a true welcome. With access to Millhaven Creek and its peaceful surroundings, this B&B embraces canine companions.
The rooms are full of charm, from plush bedding to antique vanities. Some suites overlook the creek and garden, while others feature vintage flair and warm elegance. Your dog can curl up beside you on the porch or nap in the sun while you enjoy your coffee. A generous self-serve breakfast bar opens at 7 a.m., with everything you need to start your day right, indoors or out.
“I purchased this beautiful 1880s home in 2011, intending to develop a home-based business for my retirement,” says owner Deb Baldwin. “I fell in love with this one-acre property backing onto Millhaven Creek because of its serene and calming views and immediately decided to transform it into a traditional bed and breakfast.”
There are three suites to choose from, each with a different personality. The River Suite features a jetted soaker tub and sunset views over the water. The Daisy Suite is warm and welcoming, with two queen beds and a propane fireplace. The Rose Room is styled with French country touches and includes a clawfoot tub and rainfall shower.
The backyard stretches out like something from a storybook, with limestone patios, flower beds, and a view of the creek where otters and swans sometimes drift past. Children can explore the play structure, and resident dogs, Teddy the silver lab and Bella the boxer, often greet guests with tail wags and soulful eyes.
Baldwin started small, renovating one room and opening in May 2012 with the Daisy Suite, named after her favourite flower. In spring 2013, she brought in 700 tons of limestone to build tiered patios and steps to manage the slope. Business took off, with visitors from across Canada, Europe, and the U.S. Many return guests now come multiple times a year.
“My third, and last room, was renovated in 2019, and now my whole upper level is designated for my bed and breakfast,” she says. “Guests can prepare their own breakfast with ingredients I provide, then take it to the patio or enjoy it in the breakfast room.”
About 25 per cent of guests bring pets. “I decided early on to accept pets because there was a real need for it,” Baldwin says.
She especially loves the holiday season. “Christmas is my favourite. I decorate the whole house and put up seven trees,” she says.
Some guests book in November and December just to see the display.
Weddings and romantic getaways are part of the experience, too. Daisy Hill offers bridal parties a relaxed and beautiful space to get ready. The entire B&B sleeps up to eight, and photographers are welcome to use the landscaped garden before ceremonies. Many couples return for their wedding night and anniversaries, too.
So if you’re planning a wedding, passing through, or booking a quiet country stay with your pup, Daisy Hill Bed & Breakfast blends hospitality, comfort, and charm in a way that’s hard to forget.
Pet Travel Tips for Daisy Hill Visitors
Pack a comfort kit with your dog’s favourite blanket or toy, a collapsible water bowl, a towel for post-creek naps, and doggy bags for easy trail cleanup.
Stick to your dog’s routine. The self-serve breakfast opens at 7 a.m., so bring a nibble for your pup while you enjoy a relaxed morning.
Mind your meet-and-greets. Teddy and Bella are friendly hosts. Keep greetings gentle and energy low to set a good tone.
Keep your dog close. While the garden is partially fenced, Millhaven Creek is nearby. A leash adds peace of mind.
Towel them off before bed. It helps keep the inside fur-free and fresh.
Leave the car behind. Explore nearby trails on foot. Let your pup set the pace.
